When someone asks me what I do for a living, I simply say that I am a communicator.  I communicate through a variety of different means including the telephone with homeowners, through face to face conversations with students in my mentorship program, through conversations in a group setting at my seminars and even to all of you through the written word - my blogs and articles being an example of this.  Yes, I am in the business of real estate as an investor and also in the business of marketing myself and my properties but more importantly, I am in the business of talking with other people and talking to myself.  Yes, we actually communicate with ourselves (more on that in a minute).

Spend a Day with The Diamond

A lot of people aren't sure what the a day in the life of a real estate investor consists of...people ask me all the time if I look at property everyday or if I am always on the phone or if I am in my car all day driving all over the place and my answer...it's none of those.  So to answer the questions of those who are interested, I simply say to come and spend a day with me.  Watch what it is that I do during the course of a day in the world of creative real estate.  Maybe that will help some of you take the needed steps to free yourself from a nagging job or a miserable life of doing something that you don't want to be doing in the first place.

Watch Your Language!

"Watch your language!"  That's what your parents might have told you growing up.  The Diamond is telling you that right now.  I got three separate phone calls in the past 24 hours, all of which started out with the following opening, "Hey Dave, I got a problem" or "Hey, we got a problem" and each time the person on the other end of the phone seemed dejected like their goldfish just died or something.  I guess I must be considered to be a problem solver or a "transaction engineer" of some corny phrase like that because people keep calling me with their problems.  By the way, when I actually find out what the "problem" is, it's usually such a minor thing that requires literally no action for it to be solved.  Maybe the greatest extent of action would be a simple phone call with a different angle.

I recently got back from a four day seminar in Orlando, FL that was held by Marshall Sylver, who is a renowned public speaker and motivator.  He is also someone who is constantly pushing himself to take the next step, whether in his business or personal life.  I've been around some great salespeople during my life but Marshall is by far the best salesperson I've ever met.  He is the type of guy who will have people getting out of their seats to purchase whatever product he is selling even before the presentation is over.

The concept of time management is a myth.  You cannot manage time, you can only manage the order in which things get done.  So many people tell me that they don't have the time to get the things done in their life that need to get done.  We all have fires that come up during the course of the day.  We all have distractions and things that suddenly need our attention.  However, there is a system that will allow you the ability to complete those dreams that right now you just cannot seem to get to.
